Activision Shutting Down Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile

Activision has decided to begin shutting down the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile service.

For those who may not be familiar with the mobile gaming space, there are currently two distinct Call of Duty games available. On one hand, there’s Call of Duty Mobile, developed by TiMi Studios and Tencent, which continues to thrive. On the other hand, there’s Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, a project handled internally by Activision. Unfortunately, the latter is getting gunned down permanently.

First released in March 2024, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had ambitious goals, aiming to replicate the massive success of its PC and console counterparts. However, just over a year after its launch, Activision has announced the beginning of the game’s end.

The announcement was made via Activision’s Twitter/X account. The company confirmed that it would be winding down Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, citing its inability to meet the expectations set by its PC and console versions, which remain immensely popular.

As part of this decision, Activision stated that they would no longer provide content or gameplay updates for the mobile title, effective immediately. Furthermore, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store starting May 18, local time.

Players who have already downloaded the game before this date will still be able to access and play it online without any issues, including the cross-progression features. Unfortunately, Activision did not clarify how long the servers would remain active for these existing players. At the same time, the team is pointing players to check out Call of Duty: Mobile as a possible alternative for their first-person shooter needs on the go.

“We have special incentives for Call of Duty: WM players in Call of Duty: Mobile and encourage our players to try it for free,” Activision said.

Activision concluded its announcement with a message of gratitude, thanking the community for their support, feedback, and dedication during Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile’s short-lived existence.
