Apple Acquires Sneaky Sasquatch Makers RAC7 as First Gaming Studio

The studio behind Sneaky Sasquatch — RAC7 — has become the first game studio acquired by Apple.

Apple, one of the world’s leading forces in mobile technology, continues to assert its dominance in the industry. While the debate surrounding its innovations compared to Android remains ongoing, the company consistently strives to deliver elegant and powerful hardware supported by an impressively optimised software ecosystem. In recent years, the tech giant has also shown a growing interest in the gaming sector, an interest now backed by the acquisition of development studio RAC7.

A small but innovative studio run by just two people, known primarily for their work in the mobile gaming space. RAC7 is best known as the developer behind Sneaky Sasquatch, one of the standout titles available on Apple Arcade since its release in 2019.

The growing commitment to expanding its iOS gaming ecosystem has been increasingly evident. This includes collaborations with major developers, such as Capcom, to bring blockbuster titles to their devices, as well as enhanced optimisation for various mobile games, including gacha titles.

With this acquisition, RAC7 becomes the first game studio to be brought under the company’s umbrella. While the team has not revealed extensive details about its future plans for RAC7, the company stated in an official comment to DigitalTrends that this move is part of their ongoing effort to deliver enjoyable and engaging experiences through Apple Arcade.

“We love Sneaky Sasquatch and are excited that the two-person RAC7 team has joined Apple to continue their work on it with us,” said a company spokesperson. “We will continue to deliver a great experience for Apple Arcade players with hundreds of games from many of the best game developers in the world.”

At the same time, the tech giant clarified that this acquisition does not signal a broader shift in its gaming strategy. The company emphasised that this is a unique decision, explicitly aimed at supporting RAC7 in further developing its games within the Apple Arcade ecosystem. In short, thrre are no plans for a buying spree of game developers, this is a focused move to enhance one of its key gaming offerings.

Still, this step marks an intriguing development in the approach to mobile gaming. While the company remains cautious in its messaging, it may well be a sign of more refined and exclusive content coming to Apple Arcade in the future.
