Assassin’s Creed Shadows Heads to Nintendo Switch 2 This December
Ubisoft has officially announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, marking the franchise’s debut on the new handheld-hybrid console.
The latest entry in the long-running series will be fully optimised for all Switch 2 play modes and will include touch screen functionality for seamless map and menu navigation.
Built for Portability
The Switch 2 version promises the same immersive experience as its console counterparts while allowing players to explore feudal Japan at home or on the go. Ubisoft confirmed that this edition will arrive with all previously released content updates, with the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion set to follow in early 2026.
“We are delighted to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Nintendo players,” said Charles Benoit, Game Director at Ubisoft Quebec. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players can now experience the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan anywhere their journey takes them.”

New Features for the Switch 2
Beyond portability, the Switch 2 version introduces touch-based navigation for maps, menus, and hideouts, making exploration and inventory management more intuitive. Ubisoft also confirmed cross-progression support via Ubisoft Connect, allowing players to carry their saves across platforms without losing progress.
At launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be available both physically — via a Nintendo Switch 2 game-key card — and digitally through the Nintendo eShop.
A Dual-Protagonist Journey Through Feudal Japan
Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, Assassin’s Creed Shadows places players in the late Sengoku period, letting them experience Japan through two distinct perspectives: Naoe, a master shinobi Assassin who embodies stealth and agility, and Yasuke, a legendary African samurai renowned for his strength and honour.
Players can switch between the two protagonists, mastering their complementary playstyles as they uncover intertwined destinies that shape Japan’s transformation.
Powered by Ubisoft’s enhanced Anvil engine, the game features richly detailed towns, sprawling landscapes, and dynamic weather systems, all faithfully recreated to immerse players in 16th-century Japan.
With the Switch 2 version launching this December, fans will soon be able to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows wherever they go, and hopefully, the game performs well enough outside the comfort of your home and dock.
