The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Reveals Geralt’s Next Adventure
More than 11 years after Geralt first set out across the Continent, CD Projekt Red is preparing to give him another substantial adventure with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. The third expansion was announced earlier this year, but CD Projekt Red had deliberately kept details scarce.
That finally changed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where the studio revealed the first teaser and offered a glimpse at where Geralt is heading next. The reveal was one of dozens of games featured during the show, all of which you can find in our Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 roundup.
Geralt Heads to Dandelion’s Homeland of Letten
Songs of the Past takes Geralt to Letten, a new region filled with rural traditions, folklore, abundant harvests and lavish festivals. It also happens to be Dandelion’s homeland. Geralt travels there with his longtime friend to help with a personal matter, only to discover that the seemingly peaceful region hides something considerably darker beneath the surface.
CD Projekt Red is promising never-before-seen monsters, new areas to explore and another story filled with difficult decisions and consequences. Geralt will also reunite with other familiar faces during his time in Letten.
The Chain Gives Geralt a New Way to Control Fights
The teaser also revealed a notable addition to Geralt’s arsenal: a chain. Rather than simply giving the Witcher another sword, the new weapon introduces additional crowd control options during combat. Geralt will also gain new abilities and mutagens to help deal with the threats waiting in Letten.
Longtime fans may recognise the chain itself. Geralt used one during the opening cinematic of the original The Witcher, making its transformation into a fully usable weapon a neat callback to the series’ earliest days.
Songs of the Past Benefits From The Witcher 3 Remastered
The expansion is arriving alongside a broader revival of Geralt’s most famous adventure. CD Projekt Red also announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered during Opening Night Live, bringing improvements to visuals, performance, combat, traversal, monster behaviour, progression and more when it launches on September 29.
Importantly, Songs of the Past will benefit from those improvements when it arrives the following year. CD Projekt Red is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, whose team includes veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The studio is also developing The Witcher Remake.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past launches as a paid expansion in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. A specific release date and price have yet to be announced.
