NBA The Run Roadmap Details Patches, Seasons, and Campaign Mode

Play By Play Studios has outlined what is coming next for NBA The Run, with a new patch arriving today and a broader post-launch roadmap now stretching into 2027.

The update comes two weeks after the game’s launch, as the team continues to respond to player feedback on gameplay, balance, bugs, and quality-of-life improvements. Today’s patch focuses on fixes and tuning, while the roadmap gives players a clearer idea of how the 3v3 streetball game will grow across the rest of the year.

That includes new content in July, the debut of Seasons in August, regular seasonal drops every 2 to 3 months, and a Campaign Mode planned for Spring 2027.

NBA The Run Patch Targets Bugs and Gameplay Tuning

The June 25 patch is aimed at improving the current experience before larger content updates arrive. Play By Play Studios says the new NBA The Run patch addresses crashes tied to stats reporting, soft lock issues caused by simultaneous forfeits, general gameplay bugs, and front-end UI improvements.

There are also targeted changes to KO Solos and player switching, along with audio polish, tuning, balance updates, and adjustments to the ruleset rarity to create more variety during matches. It is not the flashiest update, but it is an important one for a competitive sports game still settling in after launch.

July Update Adds New NBA Players

The next stop on the roadmap is a July game update that will add three new NBA players, along with additional content and updates. Play By Play Studios has not named the players yet, though the studio teased the update by asking whether it was “feeling drafty in here”. That strongly suggests the July additions may be tied to the latest NBA Draft class or rookie talent.

For a game built around quick team compositions and recognisable player identity, new roster additions will be one of the easiest ways to keep matches feeling fresh between bigger seasonal drops.

Summer Heat Season Begins in August

The first full season, Summer Heat, begins in August and will continue into September. This will mark the proper debut of NBA The Run’s seasonal structure, with new players, new features, new content, and more tuning based on community feedback.

Summer Heat will add a Drive Camera, giving players a new down-court view designed to create a more modern in-game feel. The season will also introduce the Summer Heat Championship Belt, which evolves over time as players chase status across the season.

Other planned additions include a Comms Wheel, Practice Mode, two new rulesets, a new New York City court with daytime and tournament variants, new shop items, AI improvements, HUD changes, and continued player balancing.

Future Seasons and Campaign Mode Are Already Planned

Beyond Summer Heat, Play By Play Studios plans to release new content and Seasons every 2 to 3 months. Future updates are expected to include new players, features, modes, rulesets, and ongoing improvements.

The studio also confirmed that Ranked or Ladders are on the roadmap for later this year, alongside some form of voice chat. Both features are still being worked on, with the team saying it wants to launch them properly rather than rush them out.

The biggest long-term addition is Campaign Mode, currently planned for Spring 2027. Play By Play Studios says it is working on a concept of NBA The Run that can be played solo or with friends, either locally or online.

For now, today’s patch is the immediate priority. However, the wider roadmap shows that NBA The Run is not being treated as a one-and-done sports release. Its first year is already being built around regular updates, seasonal goals, and a longer path towards a full campaign experience.

NBA The Run is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
