TANUKI: Pon’s Summer Release Date Sends Pon Riding Into November
Summer may be ending for most of us, but one hardworking tanuki still has an entire season of deliveries, BMX tricks and shrine restoration ahead. Critical Reflext and Kyoto-based developer Denkiworks have confirmed that TANUKI: Pon’s Summer will launch on November 10.
The date was announced during Nintendo’s latest Indie World Showcase, which also confirmed the Switch 2 and PlayStation versions for the first time. Nintendo players who purchase either the Switch or Switch 2 edition will be able to access the other version at no additional cost.
Deliver Packages, Land Tricks and Save the Shrine
Players take control of Pon, a part-time postal worker with a slightly more ambitious summer project on his paws. The Great Tanuki Shrine has fallen into disrepair, leaving Pon with one month to earn enough money and gather the materials required to restore it before the Great Tanuki Festival arrives.
Doing that means hopping onto a BMX and delivering letters and packages across a fictional Japanese island, with parcels differing in size, weight and shape. The island doubles as a playground, filled with ramps, rails and alternative routes that turn getting from one address to another into an opportunity to string together tricks.
Denkiworks says the full game features more than 100 BMX challenges, giving players plenty of reasons to take the less sensible route to their next delivery.
The laid-back Japanese setting places it alongside the growing range of distinctive indie experiences highlighted through Nintendo’s recent Indie World showcases, although Pon’s combination of postal work and two-wheeled chaos gives this particular summer holiday its own personality.
Making Friends Is Part of the Job
Deliveries are only part of Pon’s workload. Building relationships with the island’s residents opens additional activities, including sushi making, baseball and sumo wrestling. Completing these diversions provides more resources for restoring and decorating the shrine, while giving players more time with the people who will eventually attend the festival.
Players can customise the shrine as work progresses, gradually turning the abandoned space into a personalised centrepiece for the end-of-summer celebration. Pon himself can also collect crossover headwear inspired by other indie games, including Hollow Knight: Silksong, PEAK and Shovel Knight.
Steam Demo Progress Carries Into the Full Game

Anyone wanting to start Pon’s summer early can already try the Steam demo, which contains roughly two to three hours of gameplay covering the opening three in-game days. Progress from those first three days will transfer into the full version, allowing players to continue their deliveries rather than repeat the beginning when November 10 arrives.
TANUKI: Pon’s Summer launches November 10 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox Game Pass availability from day one.
