Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Demo Is Live on Steam
Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have released the first playable demo for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 on Steam, giving players an early look at the retro shooter sequel ahead of its full launch later in 2026.
The demo arrived alongside a new gameplay trailer during the Warhammer Skulls Showcase 2026, showing more of the sequel’s fast strafing, heavy weapons, and chaotic first-person combat. The full game is currently planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Two Playable Characters Lead the Demo
The new demo lets players control two playable characters across two levels. Returning Space Marine Malum Caedo brings a more durable, powerhouse style, while Nyra Veyrath offers a faster and more agile approach built around blade-focused combat.
That split immediately gives Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 a broader feel than the original. Instead of relying on a single combat rhythm, the sequel appears to be built around distinct playstyles, weapons, and abilities. For returning players, Malum Caedo provides the familiar power fantasy. For those wanting something sharper and more mobile, Nyra Veyrath adds a different way to cut through the battlefield.
The demo’s first location sends players into the perilous wilds of a Death World, with an overgrown mangrove swamp filled with Nurgle daemons and Chaos cultists. The second level shifts to an icy Imperial facility overrun by Chaos forces, introducing Khorne enemies into the sequel’s expanding roster.
More Guns, More Enemies, and a Branching Campaign
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 picks up after the events of the original game, taking players into new locations through a branching single-player campaign. Auroch Digital is promising more weapons, more enemies, more exploration, and a larger overall scope for the sequel.
New enemy types include Bloodletters and Juggernauts, alongside returning favourites such as Nurglings and Chaos Cultists. The sequel’s latest footage suggests the same old-school shooter foundation remains intact, with constant movement, aggressive pressure, and a screen filled with threats from every direction.
The studio is also leaning into the appeal that made the first Boltgun work: taking Warhammer 40,000’s heavy metal excess and translating it into a punchy retro shooter format. The sequel looks set to keep that identity while offering players greater character variety and a wider mission structure.

A Stronger Early Look Before Launch
The Steam demo gives fans a practical reason to pay attention before release, especially for players who want to see how the sequel’s new character options and level variety feel in motion. It also gives Auroch Digital a chance to build feedback around combat pacing, enemy readability, and how distinct each playable warrior feels.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches later in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The free demo is available now on Steam.
