Dead Cells Dev Motion Twin Marks Windblown Anniversary with Biggest Update Yet
Motion Twin, the acclaimed studio behind Dead Cells, is celebrating the first anniversary of Windblown’s Early Access release with its biggest update yet.
The new Lost and Altered update — now live on Steam — introduces a brand-new biome, 10 new enemies, overhauled combat mechanics, and an expanded arsenal of weapons and tools, all designed to redefine the fast-paced action that defines the roguelite.
A Massive Update for Windblown’s Growing World
The Lost and Altered update expands Windblown’s universe with the Lost Archipelago. In this mysterious new biome, players face an array of fresh enemies, including the agile Raptor and the towering Golem Whip. The zone culminates in a showdown with the new boss, the Broken Banger, whose multi-phase battle adds a new layer of challenge for veteran players.
Alongside this new area, Motion Twin has reworked the core systems to make combat more strategic and aggressive. The Alterattack system, which governs player offence and combo execution, has been rebuilt from the ground up to reward precision and high-skill play. Instead of button mashing, players are encouraged to weave together tactical attacks, dodges, and weapon swaps for maximum effect.
New Weapons, Tools, and Features

The update also expands player options with four new melee weapons, including the Golem Flail and Spinalsword, alongside two new Trinkets in Fireworks and Smokey Dokey that specialise in crowd control. Hidden throughout the world are four new Gifts and seven Rare Affixes, offering deeper build customisation for every run.
Outside of combat, the game introduces new progression systems, such as the Backpack, which allows players to store equipment for later use, and the Killstreak Chest, which offers high-risk, high-reward challenges. A new Expedition Recap Screen has also been added to help players analyse their performance and refine strategies between runs.
Community Collaboration and La Motion Week
To mark the occasion, Windblown is available at a 20% discount during La Motion Week, Motion Twin’s annual Steam celebration. The event also features limited-edition Dead Cells collectibles, including two new Youtooz plushies and a free Color a Cube collaboration, where players can paint voxel versions of Dead Cells’ most iconic characters.
Reflecting on the milestone, Motion Twin shared a message to its community:
“One year. We survived. A huge shout-out to our entire community for jumping headfirst into our beautiful, chaotic mess. You broke everything we built, found bugs we didn’t know were physically possible, and your ideas fueled all updates. Thanks for being the best co-conspirators a dev team could ask for. Now, let’s go together on the road to 1.0.”
Built With the Community, For the Community
Since launching in Early Access, Windblown has grown through constant community feedback, with each update reflecting direct player input. The Lost and Altered update represents a culmination of that collaboration — a more refined, expansive, and satisfying version of Motion Twin’s chaotic roguelite.
The Lost and Altered update is available now as a free download for all Windblown owners on Steam.

Well said.
