Stranger Than Heaven Release Date and Tupac Reveal Steal Summer Game Fest
The mystery surrounding Stranger Than Heaven has slowly started to unravel over the past year. Originally introduced under the codename Project Century, the game was later confirmed as an origin story centred on the creation of the Tojo Clan, the legendary criminal organisation that plays a major role throughout RGG Studio’s Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise.
Since then, anticipation around the project has continued to grow. RGG Studio has already teased an unusually ambitious structure spanning five different time periods and five separate cities, while also revealing appearances from major music personalities, including Snoop Dogg and Japanese singer Ado.
Even with those surprises already established, the latest reveal still managed to catch fans off guard.
RGG Studio Reveals Tupac Shakur Appearance
During Summer Game Fest, SEGA and RGG Studio revealed Stranger Than Heaven’s release date of January 15, 2027. That alone would have been a major update, but it was not the biggest talking point from the showcase.
In one of the trailer’s most unexpected moments, legendary rapper Tupac Shakur appeared at the end of the footage through a digital recreation. The reveal immediately drew attention online, both for the realism of the recreation and for the sheer unpredictability of the crossover.
True to its title, Stranger Than Heaven appears fully committed to RGG Studio’s taste for strange, dramatic, and unconventional storytelling choices.
Tupac’s Role in Stranger Than Heaven Remains Unclear
For now, RGG Studio has not explained exactly who Tupac will portray or how important his role will be within the wider story. The studio has only confirmed that he will appear in the narrative, rather than as a simple background cameo. That detail alone has fuelled plenty of speculation, especially given the game’s structure across multiple eras and its focus on organised crime, cultural change, and underground power struggles.
The decision also continues RGG Studio’s long-running habit of blending fictional crime drama with real-world celebrity appearances, though this may be one of the studio’s most surprising examples yet.
The latest trailer also introduced several Japanese actors and actresses who will help tell the story of Makoto Daito, the man set to become one of the key figures behind the rise of the Tojo Clan. Players will reportedly follow Daito’s journey from his youth through to his transformation into a major underworld figure. With five time periods and five cities already teased, Stranger Than Heaven is shaping up to be one of RGG Studio’s most ambitious narrative projects.
Despite the strong reaction to the trailer, one fan complaint continues to surface online. RGG Studio still has not released the game’s main theme song, despite growing demand from players who have been following the project closely.

Stranger Than Heaven Release Date Confirmed
Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
For a game that began life as one of RGG Studio’s most mysterious projects, Stranger Than Heaven now looks like one of its boldest. Between its Tojo Clan origin story, multi-era structure, celebrity appearances, and now a digital Tupac reveal, the studio seems intent on making this more than another crime drama.
