Relic Unleashes Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition in 2025

One of the key players in the real-time strategy space is making a grand return. Relic Entertainment has announced a modern remaster of the classic RTS romp 20 years after it first debuted with Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition.

Coming to PC via Steam and GOG in the second half of 2025, this is the best way to enjoy the game in one complete package. This includes all four campaigns, nine fully developed factions, and combat unfolding over 200 maps.

As a modernised version, players can expect the bells and whistles that generally accompany such releases. Visually, image-based lighting and upgraded unit textures will enhance the overall presentation. In addition, improved world lighting, unit reflections, more detailed shadows, surface gloss, and emissive lighting combine for a superior Dawn of War experience while still staying true to its roots.

If you ever wanted to marvel at the various units in the factions more clearly, each unit has received texture upscaling of at least four times their original resolution, making for more details and a more readable experience on contemporary displays.

Relic is also changing the gameplay camera, delivering an improved version that allows you to check out the battlefield seamlessly and effectively. Increased draw distances make for a more cinematic experience, and the HUD and screen layout have been optimised for modern widescreen viewing.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition will support mods from the get-go as well. An integrated Mod Manager will make management of your favourite mods much more straightforward, and will also be compatible with over 20 years of Community Mods.

“The Definitive Edition celebrates the original Dawn of War and preserves the legacy of this landmark Warhammer 40,000 title for years to come,” said Justin Dowdeswell, CEO at Relic Entertainment. “Warhammer 40,000 is more popular than ever, and we want new players to experience where the classic Dawn of War franchise began, while providing a platform for our long-time fans to relive it in its entirety.”
