Diablo IV Season of Death Awakening Brings New Threats to Sanctuary
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed Diablo IV: Season of Death Awakening, the next major seasonal update for its action RPG.
Season 14 launches on June 30, following the events of Lord of Hatred and the devastation left behind by Mephisto’s wrath. This time, Blizzard is pulling players towards Pandemonium, the realm where Malthael, the Angel of Death, was defeated in Diablo III.
The new season adds a questline centred on a Death Cult in Zarbinzet, alongside Pandemonium Ruptures, Mythic Unique changes, Solo Self Found mode, Tower and Leaderboard updates, and an Overwatch collaboration. Patch 3.1.0 is also available for early download from June 25 on Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Warlock Free Trial Lets Players Test the New Class
The biggest entry point for new players is the Warlock free trial. From June 30 to July 7, players can try the Warlock class for free on Battle.net, Xbox, and PlayStation, levelling the class up to level 30.
Progress will carry over if players purchase the Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion, allowing them to continue with the same character. Blizzard is also opening a wider base game free trial from July 8 on Battle.net, letting new players test multiple classes before buying the full game.
For anyone curious about the Warlock, this trial gives Blizzard a timely way to bring new players into the season without asking them to commit immediately.
Pandemonium Ruptures Tear Open Across Sanctuary
Season of Death Awakening introduces Pandemonium Ruptures, arcane rifts that open throughout Sanctuary and become more common in Helltide Zones. Players will fight through these ruptures, keep ritual rings active, and earn better rewards the longer they hold them open.
Completing certain Ruptures can also summon Realmwalkers. Defeating them opens a portal to the Deathtoll Chamber, a one-room mini-dungeon that offers additional rewards and access to materials tied to Mythic Unique progression. The new season in Diablo IV also introduces the Risen, a new monster family, and a Corrupted Reaper as the new seasonal Lair Boss.

Mythic Uniques and Solo Self Found Reshape the Endgame
Season 14 is also making a major change to Mythic Uniques. Instead of being limited to a small pool of items, any Unique can now drop as Mythic quality or be upgraded into a Mythic Unique using the Horadric Cube or Jeweller.
Solo Self Found is also finally arriving. The mode is built for players who want a clean solo challenge, with no trading or partying and separate Tower Leaderboards for Normal and Hardcore SSF characters. Blizzard is also bringing Tower and Leaderboards out of beta, adding rewards such as Halo cosmetics, prestige titles, and seasonal emblems for players who climb the rankings.
Diablo IV and Overwatch Collide in a Limited-Time Event
Season 14 will also include a limited-time Overwatch collaboration. Starting June 30, players can defeat Elite and Champion monsters to earn Eye of the Overwatch currency, which can be spent in a free Overwatch Reliquary.

Rewards include emblems, a mount trophy, weapon cosmetics, an Overwatch-themed dye, and Kiriko’s Fox Spirit companion for completing the Reliquary. Additional Overwatch skins will also be available through Tejal’s Shop.
Between the Warlock trial, Pandemonium Ruptures, SSF, Mythic Unique changes, and the Overwatch crossover, Season of Death Awakening looks like one of Diablo IV’s broader seasonal updates so far, and it all arrives this June 30.
