Dragon’s Dogma 2 Update 3.2 Finally Tackles Performance

Capcom’s RE Engine has powered some exceptionally good-looking games, but stretching it across much larger open worlds has not always produced equally convincing results. Dragon’s Dogma 2 became one of the clearest examples at launch, particularly on PC, where CPU-heavy areas such as Vernworth could cause substantial frame rate drops even on powerful hardware.

With the Dark Arisen expansion approaching, Capcom promised another major round of optimisation work through Title Update 3.2. That update is now live, and Capcom appears confident enough in the improvements to officially lower the PC system requirements.

Early reactions from players have also been encouraging. Some PC users are reporting steadier performance dramatically within cities, while independent testing has found particularly substantial gains in CPU-limited scenarios. Results will naturally vary between hardware configurations, and some users have reported new issues, but this appears to be considerably more than a minor optimisation pass.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Can Now Run on Weaker Hardware

The most obvious evidence comes directly from Capcom’s revised specifications. At launch, the minimum requirements called for an Intel Core i5-10600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 alongside an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT.

Those have now fallen to an Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, paired with a GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT. The recommended GPU requirements have also dropped from an RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 6700 to an RTX 2070 Super or RX 6600 XT, while the recommended processor requirements remain unchanged.

Capcom has simultaneously raised its expected performance targets. The old minimum specification targeted around 1080p at 30 FPS, whereas the revised setup targets 1080p at 45-60 FPS using FSR in Performance Mode.

The updated requirements are:

Capcom still warns that frame rates can fall under heavier processing loads.

Three Save Slots and Six Skills Arrive With Update 3.2

Performance is only part of the update. One of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s more controversial restrictions has finally been addressed, with players now receiving three separate save slots. Each can contain its own Arisen and Main Pawn, making it possible to start another adventure without deleting an existing character.

The underlying save system is more forgiving too, introducing Autosave, Interim Save and Last Inn Rest Save data within each slot.

Combat has also received a substantial quality-of-life improvement. Vocations can now equip six Weapon Skills instead of four, creating more room to experiment without constantly swapping abilities. Pawns affected by Dragonsplague gain new combat behaviours to make the condition’s benefits more apparent, while Capcom has added another method of curing it.

On consoles, Performance Mode now targets 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, while PlayStation 5 Pro receives additional performance and image quality improvements. It has taken more than two years, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 appears to be entering its best technical state just in time for players to return.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches on October 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
