Dune: Awakening Console Release Brings Arrakis To More Players

Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, bringing its open-world survival take on Arrakis to console players for the first time.

Funcom is also using the September release to roll out what it describes as the most complete version of Dune: Awakening so far, combining the improvements made on PC over the past year with major new features arriving across all platforms.

Full Single Player Mode Changes The Arrakis Experience

Shown at the State of Play presentation, one of the biggest additions is full single-player support. Dune: Awakening can now be played entirely solo, with scalable difficulty and a wide range of customisation settings. That is a meaningful shift for a survival game originally built around shared spaces, factions, and large-scale multiplayer systems.

Players who want to experience Arrakis without the pressure of PvP or server competition will now have a clearer route through the game. Single-player and private server settings will allow players to adjust elements such as harvesting rates, experience gain, and combat difficulty.

That should make Dune: Awakening more approachable for players who are interested in the world and story, but less interested in the harsher edges of online survival games.

Book One Reaches Its Story Finale

The September update will also complete Book One of Dune: Awakening’s cinematic storyline, giving players the chance to experience the game’s story from beginning to end.

For console players entering on September 22, the timing is useful. They will not be arriving at the start of an unfinished arc, but into a more complete version of the Arrakis story with its first major conclusion already in place.

PvE, Late Game, and Quality Of Life Improvements Arrive Together

New players on PC and console will also benefit from updates introduced since the original PC launch. These include optional PvP, allowing the full multiplayer experience to be played in PvE, including the Deep Desert and faction conflict. Funcom has also rebuilt the late game loop, aiming for a more balanced and content-rich experience once players move beyond early survival.

Other changes include a vehicle backup tool, a base reconstruction tool, character re-customisation, the removal of taxes, new map locations, expanded story content, and general quality-of-life improvements. PC players will also be able to host self-hosted servers without renting one.

Xbox Game Pass And More Platforms Expand Access

Dune: Awakening will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass on the same day. It will support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing progress sharing between Xbox and Microsoft Store versions, with cross-play between those platforms. Funcom has also confirmed support for ROG Xbox Ally, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam Deck, and GeForce Now.

There is more coming after September as well. The Polar Cap, a new survival map located at the Arrakis pole, is planned as a free update later this year. It will introduce a new biome, fresh content, and additional survival mechanics.

For players who have been waiting to step onto Arrakis from console, September 22 now looks like the right entry point. Dune: Awakening is not just expanding platforms, it is also reshaping itself into a more flexible survival experience for solo players, PvE groups, and large-scale multiplayer communities alike.
