Hideki Kamiya Keen to Remake Devil May Cry

In his latest video, Hideki Kamiya expressed his interest in remaking the first Devil May Cry.

The rekindled relationship between Capcom and Hideki Kamiya has sparked a wave of anticipation among fans, particularly with the spotlight being shone on the Okami franchise. Although Kamiya is no longer officially under the Capcom banner and is now running his own studio, CLOVERS, there are still many hoping to see him revisit his past works, particularly Devil May Cry (DMC).

Kamiya recently expressed his genuine interest in remaking DMC during a Q&A session on his personal YouTube channel. When asked by a fan how he would approach a potential Devil May Cry remake if given the opportunity, Kamiya spoke openly about his thoughts.

Although he admits to never actually playing the game after its initial release, Kamiya mentioned that he often watches gameplay clips of the original Devil May Cry. From these clips, he recognises that the game, now 24 years old, shows its age both visually and mechanically.

“Every time I see it, I understand how outdated it looks and feels,” Kamiya remarked honestly.

Given the chance by Capcom, Kamiya stated that he would be eager to handle the remake process for Devil May Cry, rebuilding everything entirely from the ground up. Although he has no concrete ideas for new mechanics or content that he would introduce, he is confident that he could deliver something fresh and impactful if this dream were to become reality.

He concluded his statement with a hopeful note, wishing that Capcom would realise his dream. Not only did he express a desire to revisit Devil May Cry, but he also hinted at an interest in reviving another one of his beloved action games, Viewtiful Joe, which has been “dormant” for far too long.

For fans of Hideki Kamiya’s work, the possibility of seeing him return to these iconic titles is nothing short of exciting. Whether Capcom will take him up on this offer remains to be seen, but Kamiya’s enthusiasm is evident and unyielding, and that’s always a good thing.
