PAYDAY: Aces High Gameplay Shows Heists in VR
Fast Travel Games has revealed the first gameplay for PAYDAY: Aces High, offering a closer look at how the series’ familiar co-op heists are being adapted for virtual reality.
Shown during the VR Games Showcase, the new trailer highlights gunfights, gadgets, player abilities, and the preparation that goes into a job before it descends into chaos. Players will be able to build a loadout using weapons, skills, and equipment before surveying a location and deciding when or whether to go loud.
The game is officially licensed by Starbreeze Entertainment and takes place within the wider PAYDAY universe, although this is a separate VR-focused experience developed by Fast Travel Games.
Four Aces Bring Different Roles to Each Heist
PAYDAY: Aces High is built around four selectable Aces, each designed around a different approach to a job.
The Ace of Hearts acts as the Mastermind, while the Ace of Clubs focuses on stealth as the Ghost. The Ace of Diamonds takes on the Technician role with a stronger emphasis on gadgets, while the Ace of Spades serves as the Enforcer for players who prefer brute force once things get loud.
Players can team up with as many as three partners, creating four-player crews that can combine those roles depending on how they want to approach each heist. The equipment pool includes assault rifles, submachine guns, shotguns and pistols alongside tools such as grapples and sentry guns. Cash and reputation earned from jobs can then be used to unlock additional skills, weapons and gear.
PAYDAY: Aces High Playtest Starts August 20
Players will get their first opportunity to try the game themselves through a closed community playtest running from August 20 to August 24 on Meta Quest 3. Fast Travel Games says spaces will be limited, with registrations available through the official PAYDAY: Aces High website.
Chief Creative Officer and Fast Travel Games co-founder Erik Odeldahl said the playtest will also give the studio an opportunity to gather feedback directly from the community before release.
“Now it’s time to hand over the keys,” Odeldahl said. “With the community playtest, players will experience PAYDAY: Aces High for the very first time.”

PAYDAY: Aces High Is Coming Later This Year
PAYDAY: Aces High is currently planned for release later this year, although a specific launch date has not yet been announced.
For a series already built around first-person co-op chaos, VR feels like a fairly natural extension of the formula. The real test will be whether Fast Travel Games can preserve the flexibility of planning, stealth, and explosive improvisation that has defined PAYDAY while making it all feel comfortable and responsive in a headset.
