Hideo Kojima Says Espionage Game Physint Will Take 5-6 Years More

Hideo Kojima admitted that the development of Physint may take around 5 to 6 more years.

Once under the Konami banner, it felt that creator Hideo Kojima was always limited from exploring his craziest ideas. With Kojima Productions, however, the opposite seems to be more true than ever. That freedom gave us the likes of Death Stranding and its upcoming sequel, and that’s not all. There is also the project known as Physint, which will be return to tactical espionage action that Kojima is most known for.

Yet, those who are eagerly waiting will need to be extremely patient. In a recent interview with French magazine Le Film Français, as reported by VGC, Kojima shared some new insights into his future plans. He expressed a strong desire to eventually direct a feature film, once the current slate of projects at Kojima Productions reaches completion.

While development on Death Stranding 2 is reportedly complete, Kojima noted that Physint could take an estimated five to six more years before it’s ready for release. This projection suggests the game may not launch until around 2030 at the earliest.

Physint was officially revealed in 2024 through a teaser trailer that offered little more than the game’s title. Despite the lack of details, it has already generated considerable buzz, primarily due to Kojima’s return to his stealth-action espionage roots — the very genre that made Metal Gear Solid a global phenomenon.

Given the extended development timeline Kojima hinted at, it’s also likely that Physint will be positioned as a flagship title for Sony’s next-generation console, presumably the PlayStation 6, rather than the current PlayStation 5.

Beyond Physint, there is also OD, his project with Microsoft. No details about that game have been shared either, but the bottom line is that Kojima is more than busy enough at this point. While fans may be disappointed by the long wait, Kojima’s track record of innovation and storytelling excellence suggests that Physint will be worth the patience.
