Runescape: Dragonwilds Shadowdrops on Steam, Available Now

Surprises can go two ways, but for fans of RuneScape, Jagex has gone the pleasant route with the swift release of RuneScape: Dragonwilds just two weeks after detailing it to the world. A livestream was supposedly scheduled where more information would be shared, including about its release, but Early Access starts now.

For those learning about this spin-off for the first time, it will veer away from the typical RuneScape experience many have known and loved for years. Bringing players to the forgotten continent of Ashenfall, where dragons have awoken, it is up to you to slay the Dragon Queen in order to have a safe and peaceful life.

This will be a hand-crafted world that paves the way for high fantasy and roleplaying elements to blend together for a fun time, all while not ignoring the extensive lore from the wider world of RuneScape. Legendary creatures will also return along with new faces, and you better be prepared for the challenges to come.

That means you will collect resources, craft, and generally get your skills up to snuff. There will be new magical ways to go about the business in RuneScape: Dragonwilds too, such as using a spectral axe or using explosions to make mining easier.

“We’re so excited to surprise players with our Early Access launch today and invite them to discover the magical world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds right now,” said Jesse America, executive producer. “We’ve been working hard to develop an entirely new type of RuneScape experience that ignites fans’ passion, creativity and love for questing, and provide them with an all-new RuneScape adventure to discover. And this is just the start of our development journey.”

Like many other Early Access games, RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be updated regularly with more content and features, with the community given a platform to sound their concerns. The game is set to launch fully sometime in 2026.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds is available now on Steam Early Access.
