Stupid Never Dies Release Date Confirmed by GPTRACK50
GPTRACK50 has confirmed that Stupid Never Dies will launch for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 21 in some overseas regions, followed by Japan on October 22. The debut title from the NetEase-owned Japanese studio is a single-player 3D action RPG built around what it calls “blazing fast growth”.
That phrase sounds ridiculous, but it actually explains the hook rather well. Players control Davy, a bottom-rung zombie who starts weak, scared, and completely outmatched, before gradually becoming stronger by modifying his body and taking on enemy abilities.
The release date announcement also confirms that GPTRACK50 will release the game worldwide through a co-publishing arrangement with SEGA, giving the new studio’s first project a larger global push.
A NetEase Studio Led by a Resident Evil Veteran
Stupid Never Dies has attracted attention because of the people behind it. GPTRACK50 was established in 2022 as a fully owned subsidiary of NetEase Games, with former Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi leading the studio. Kobayashi spent 27 years at Capcom, where his credits included work across Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma, Sengoku Basara, and Mega Man 11.
Stupid Never Dies is clearly leaning into action-game confidence rather than playing things safe. It looks loud, fast, strange, and proudly silly, which gives it a different personality from many of the more serious action RPGs currently crowding the calendar.
Davy Eats, Steals, and Builds His Way Up
The game follows Davy, a timid zombie living at the bottom of monster society. His goal is to bring Julia, the frozen human girl he loves, back to life. To do that, he ventures into a dangerous monster-filled dungeon, upgrades his undead body through Body Hack, and uses a system called Style Eat to take abilities from monsters he defeats.
Those forms include Zombie, Werewolf, Harpy, Golem, Vampire, Will-o’-the-Wisp, Cyclops, Snow Fairy, Merfolk, Lich, and Demon. Each Style gives Davy a different way to fight, turning the game into a build-heavy action RPG where growth is tied directly to transformation.
Deluxe Edition and Music Plans Revealed
GPTRACK50 has also announced Stupid Never Dies: Gorgeous Baka Edition, a digital deluxe version that includes the base game and the Tick-Tock Bear Delusion Effect Pack. That DLC adds 5 versions of the Tick-Tock Bear accessory on Davy’s waist, each changing certain visual effects, sounds, or background music during gameplay. The Steam version and Gorgeous Baka Edition will be digital-only.
Two theme songs will also be released digitally from August 4. The opening theme, “Stupid Never Dies”, is performed by Davy and Julia, while the ending theme, “Restless, Reckless, Never Die, Fearless”, is performed by Davy.
A Weird Action RPG Entering a Crowded Window
October is rarely an easy month for a new game to stand out, but Stupid Never Dies has one advantage: it does not look like much else. Between its punk energy, monster transformations, romantic zombie premise, and veteran action development team, GPTRACK50’s first game has a clear identity. The question now is whether all that chaos can hold together once players get their hands on it.
Stupid Never Dies launches on October 21 in some regions for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, with Japan following on October 22.
