007 First Light Reveals a Bond-Style Theme Song, Performed by Lana Del Rey

IO Interactive is leaning into one of the James Bond franchise’s most enduring traditions for 007 First Light: the theme song.

The studio has confirmed that the game’s main theme, titled First Light, will be performed by Lana Del Rey, with writing and composition handled by David Arnold, a long-time Bond composer.

Why the Theme Song Choice Matters

Bond themes have always done more than sit over an opening montage. They are tone-setters, brand signals, and an early statement of intent. For a game that is trying to sell itself as a proper experience within the universe of the beloved agent rather than a generic spy thriller with the name attached, commissioning a headline theme track is a clear move.

Lana Del Rey’s style also fits the assignment: cinematic melancholy, dramatic pacing, and a voice that carries mood even when the lyrics are understated. It is a selection that reads as a deliberate, creative choice for 007 First Light, aimed at giving the project a recognisable identity outside of trailers and gameplay clips.

David Arnold Adds Franchise Continuity

Arnold’s involvement is arguably the more telling detail. He has worked on multiple Bond films, and his presence suggests IO Interactive wants the music to feel structurally Bond, not just adjacent to it.

Arnold’s own view that a Bond theme should give audiences a sense of the world they are about to enter is also a useful statement of purpose for a game that will live or die on atmosphere as much as mechanics.

007 First Light is scheduled to launch on May 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
