AYANEO NEXT 2 Price Pushes the Handheld PC Market Higher

AYANEO has reopened pre-orders for the AYANEO NEXT 2, and the company’s flagship Windows handheld now sits firmly in ultra-premium territory. The device was previously delayed after rising memory and storage costs made its original pricing difficult to sustain.

At the time, AYANEO said continuing to sell the NEXT 2 under those conditions could hurt both consumers and the long-term development of the brand. Now, the handheld is back, but with a much higher price attached. The entry-level model starts at US$2,999, while the top configuration rises to US$5,299.

For context, that puts the device far beyond mainstream handhelds such as the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and Nintendo Switch 2. AYANEO is clearly not chasing the mass market here. This is a niche enthusiast device built for players who want extreme specifications in a portable form factor and are willing to pay heavily for it.

Three Configurations Are Available

At the time of writing, AYANEO’s store shows the 64GB model as available, while the 32GB and 128GB versions are listed as sold out. That availability could change, but it already shows how limited and specialised this product is likely to be. The US$5,299 Ultimate Edition may grab headlines, but the US$3,699 model is currently the one most buyers can actually order.

The Hardware Is Clearly Built to Impress

The AYANEO NEXT 2 is not short on hardware ambition. It features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2400 x 1504 resolution, up to 165Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness listed at 1,155 nits. The handheld also includes a 116Wh battery, dual turbo centrifugal fans, dual touchpads, TMR joysticks, Hall Effect linear triggers, trigger locks, magnetic levitation motors, a six-axis gyroscope, and 2 USB4 ports.

Storage support includes one NVMe 2280 PCIe 4.0 slot and one NVMe 2230 PCIe 4.0 slot. The system runs Windows 11 Home with AYASpace 3.0, positioning it more like a compact gaming PC than a traditional portable console. The trade-off is size. At around 1.428kg, the AYANEO NEXT 2 is not exactly the kind of handheld most players will casually throw into a bag for a commute.

AYANEO Is Betting on Enthusiasts, Not Everyone

The price makes it easy to criticise, but it also clarifies AYANEO’s strategy. This is not designed to replace a Steam Deck for most players. It is built for a smaller group of buyers who want cutting-edge integrated AMD hardware, huge memory options, an oversized OLED display, and PC flexibility in one portable machine.

Whether that market is large enough is the real question. Handheld gaming PCs have become more competitive in recent years, but the strongest devices tend to balance performance, battery life, comfort, and value. The AYANEO NEXT 2 is pushing hard on performance and specification luxury, while making price and portability much harder to justify.

Shipping Is Expected in Late July

AYANEO is expected to begin overseas shipments for the NEXT 2 in late July.

That should finally get the device into the hands of early buyers after months of uncertainty. Still, its return says as much about the current state of gaming hardware as it does about AYANEO itself. Memory and storage pressure are making high-end devices more expensive, and companies now have to decide whether to absorb those costs, reduce ambition, or pass them directly to consumers.
