Blighted 2027 Delay Gives Drinkbox More Time for Polish

Drinkbox Studios has pushed Blighted into 2027, giving the Guacamelee! and Nobody Saves the World developer more time to polish and tune its upcoming action RPG. The psychedelic Western-inspired Metroidvania had previously been expected sometime this year, but Drinkbox confirmed the change as part of its latest developer update.

“The team has been working hard (and growing!) but we feel we still need a bit more time to polish and tune the game before launch,” Drinkbox’s Josh Davis explained.

While that means players will have to wait a little longer, the studio is not disappearing until next year. Drinkbox says another “really cool” development update is planned before 2026 comes to an end, with further Blighted news following in 2027.

Watcher’s Peak Offers Another Look at the World

The latest developer update also offered a fresh glimpse at the game’s environments, including Watcher’s Peak, a hub area that provides another example of the surreal direction Drinkbox is taking with its world.

Blighted 2027 Delay Gives Drinkbox More Time for Polish

Blighted follows the lone survivor of a village destroyed by Sorcisto, who gained immense power by consuming the brains and memories of its people. Players must recover those lost memories while dealing with the Blight gradually consuming both themselves and the surrounding world.

That same Blight doubles as one of the game’s central systems. Defeating enemies and harnessing it can alter combat encounters, open previously hidden routes and change parts of the environment, while greater levels of Blight also increase the challenge. Bosses play into progression as well, with players able to consume their brains to inherit memories, unlock additional abilities and potentially access new paths.

Blighted Supports Solo and Co-Op Play

Combat combines carefully timed attacks, combo chains and finishers, with the entire campaign playable alone or with another player through local or online co-op. Drinkbox is also promising secrets hidden throughout the world, with exploration and observation feeding directly into its Metroidvania structure.

The delay means Blighted will no longer arrive before the end of this year, but Drinkbox’s reasoning is straightforward: the team wants more time to get the game into the state it wants before release. For anyone waiting to see more, there should at least be one more substantial look at Blighted before 2026 wraps up.
