Deep Forging System in Blades of Fire Wants You to Wield the Hammer

With powerful weapons at the heart of the action in MercurySteam and 505 GamesBlades of Fire, it makes perfect sense for players to be involved in the crafting process. In a new video showcase, we got a closer look at this key aspect of the game, and the forging looks pretty deep, to say the least.

Players will first have to choose what type of weapon they want to go for, disappearing into the Forge of the Gods to do their business. Based on the type of Forge Scroll you have collected, that could mean a pair of daggers, sabers, twins, swords, greatswords, polearms, and spears. Once the weapon type has been chosen, the fun has only just begun.

Players can then decide the look and functionality of their weapon to suit their preferred playstyle. Each component will have different effects on the final product, giving you more freedom in creating the perfect weapon. For example, the steel you use can be light, medium, or heavy, and can be better suited to the aspects of laceration, defense, or durability.

Naturally, rarer materials will be harder to find, but they hold the key to creating the most powerful of weapons that hero Aran can use in Blades of Fire. Once you have made your choice, the game doesn’t automatically create the weapon for you, the forging has to be done by your hand.

Firing up the furnace begins a blacksmithing minigame, where players must first strike the steel to form the shape outlined for the weapon. Finetuning the hammer strike strength, tilt, and even width to guide the final results. It looks like a really involved process, and can be a fun way of giving players agency over their crafting. The fewer strikes you require, the better quality the end product will be. When it’s all said and done, you can bestow a fitting name to the weapon and begin using it as it’s intended.

This showcase is just the beginning, as more will come from the mini-series, explaining all the other key elements of Blades of Fire in more detail.

Blades of Fire is releasing this May 22 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
