Dune: Awakening Console Launch Brings Arrakis to PS5 and Xbox
Funcom has officially launched Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, ending its Head Start period and bringing the expanded survival game to console players.
The September 23 launch also puts Dune: Awakening on Xbox Game Pass, while Xbox Play Anywhere support lets progression carry over between Xbox consoles, Windows PC, ROG Xbox Ally, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Full cross-platform play is still planned for a later update.
This is also the version of Dune: Awakening we recently covered during its console Head Start, bringing together the full single-player mode, optional PvP, deeper gameplay customisation and more than a year’s worth of PC updates from day one.
Filmic Archive DLC Brings the Dune Movies Into Your Base
Launching alongside the console version is Filmic Archive, a new cosmetic DLC drawing directly from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. The pack includes outfits such as the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Duke Leto and Paul in Dune: Part One, alongside the Aegis of an Unwalked Path armour inspired by Paul’s visions of Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part Two.
The pack also includes 73 Sardaukar building pieces, plus additional decorations, weapons, and emotes for players who want to give their character and base more of the films’ visual identity.
Single-Player and the Rebuilt Endgame Are Included
Console players are arriving after a substantial reworking of the original PC experience. The entire game can now be played solo, with custom settings covering harvesting rates, experience gain and death penalties. PvP is now optional, with separate PvE and PvP versions of the Deep Desert endgame.
Other changes include vehicle recovery, the removal of taxes, reduced death penalties and a rebuilt endgame centred around progressing through the Atreides or Harkonnen ranks. New maps, dungeons, weapons, dynamic encounters, Augmentations and Specialisations have also been added, alongside improvements to melee combat and performance. The latest update additionally concludes Book One with several more hours of story content.
Steam Gets a 50% Discount
PC players have something to celebrate too, with Dune: Awakening discounted by 50% on Steam until October 8, its deepest discount so far. A physical PlayStation 5 edition is also available now, while the Japanese physical release will follow on October 29.
With the full console release complete, the current version of Dune: Awakening differs considerably from the one that originally launched on PC, especially for players who wanted to experience Arrakis alone rather than through its multiplayer survival systems.
