Forza Horizon 6 PS5 Release Reportedly Slips Beyond 2026
Xbox’s approach to console exclusivity has become considerably harder to predict over the past year. Under its new leadership, Microsoft has placed renewed emphasis on giving players reasons to own an Xbox, with titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution remaining console exclusives.
At the same time, the company has said that previously announced multiplatform commitments will still be honoured. One of the biggest of those commitments is Forza Horizon 6.
Playground Games’ open-world racer launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, finally taking the Horizon Festival to Japan after years of fan requests. PlayStation 5 players were supposed to get their turn later in 2026, but that now appears increasingly unlikely.
Not Expecting Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 This Year
The Verge’s Tom Warren recently responded to speculation surrounding the PS5 port, stating that he is “not expecting to see Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in 2026.” That does not amount to an official delay announcement, but Warren subsequently clarified that the PlayStation version is still coming.
IGN has also reported that the PS5 release will no longer arrive this year, lending further weight to the prospect of a 2027 launch. Microsoft and Playground Games have yet to publicly change their plans. The official Forza Horizon 6 FAQ continues to list PlayStation 5 as coming later in 2026, while the game remains available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store.
Until that changes, 2027 remains a reported expectation rather than a confirmed new release window.
Forza Horizon 6 Is Still Coming to PlayStation 5
That distinction is particularly relevant given Xbox’s wider strategic changes. Microsoft has recently been more vocal about the importance of exclusives, but it has also said it intends to honour platform commitments already made to players.
Cancelling Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 would therefore represent something considerably more significant than simply shifting its release date. There is also plenty of precedent for Forza Horizon finding a large audience on PlayStation. Forza Horizon 5 became one of Xbox’s most successful releases on Sony’s platform after making the jump in 2025.
Exactly why Forza Horizon 6 may need longer remains unknown. There is no confirmed technical issue, strategic reason, or other explanation for the reported change, so speculation about Xbox exclusivity or the crowded end-of-year release calendar should remain just that.
For now, PlayStation players can at least be reasonably confident that Japan is still waiting for them, they may simply need to wait until 2027 to get there.
