Duo Quest Launches September 16 With Online and Local Co-Op
How well do you actually know the person sitting beside you? 1+1 Studios is almost ready to find out, with Malaysian co-op deckbuilder Duo Quest launching for PC on September 16 after two years of development.
We previously covered Duo Quest during the Southeast Asian Games Showcase, where its unusual combination of roguelike deckbuilding and relationship questions immediately stood out.
The finished release expands considerably on that premise, supporting both local and online co-op, five unlockable classes, procedurally generated levels and more than 1,000 questions across over 20 themes. A 20% launch discount will also run for an entire month from September 16, with regional pricing applied through Steam.
Bondbreaker Makes Your Relationship Part of the Build
At its core, Duo Quest remains a cooperative deckbuilder designed specifically for two players. Both adventurers construct complementary decks, choose routes through procedurally generated stages and combine their abilities during combat.
The more unusual part is Bondbreaker Mode. Certain encounters ask players questions about one another, ranging from lighter conversation starters to more personal topics. Correctly understanding your partner can feed directly back into the run, turning familiarity with the person beside you into another strategic resource.
Players will have five classes to unlock, while Artifacts provide additional effects capable of changing how particular builds develop. Visible branching routes and repeatable stages encourage multiple runs, with secrets and new cards hidden throughout.
Online Co-Op Was Added Following Player Feedback
Online play was not always part of the plan. 1+1 Studios added online co-op to the free demo following requests from playtesters, allowing two players to tackle the same relationship-testing experience without sharing a couch.
The demo remains available through the Duo Quest Steam page until launch. The Kuala Lumpur studio says the response has helped the game pass 30,000 Steam wishlists, while one trailer attracted more than two million views in Japan, and that Japanese interest comes at a useful time.
Duo Quest Heads Straight to Tokyo Game Show
Just one day after launch, Duo Quest will make the trip to Tokyo Game Show, which runs from September 17 to 21. Attendees can play the full game at the Rising Tide booth and meet members of the development team.
Players who show proof that they own Duo Quest on Steam will also be able to purchase official merchandise at a discounted price during the event. It marks a significant week for a six-person studio, with most of the team entering game development with little or no prior professional experience.
