Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Steam Region Lock Has Started to Ease

Sony appears to be quietly loosening some regional restrictions for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on Steam. The upcoming 4v4 fighting game from Arc System Works, Marvel Games, and PlayStation has already drawn strong attention from the fighting game community, but its PC availability has become one of the biggest concerns ahead of launch.

Earlier reports noted that the game was unavailable for purchase in more than 100 countries on Steam, sparking familiar criticism around PlayStation-published PC releases and regional access. Now, as reported by The Outer Haven, players in several previously restricted regions have noticed that the game’s Steam page is once again accessible.

The Philippines is among the countries where access appears to have returned, giving some Southeast Asian players fresh hope that Sony may be adjusting availability before release.

Sony Has Not Explained the Steam Listing Change

The most important detail is that Sony has not publicly explained the change. There has been no formal statement from PlayStation, Arc System Works, or Marvel Games confirming why certain countries have regained Steam access. Because of that, the update should be treated as a quiet listing change rather than an officially announced policy reversal.

Still, the timing is notable. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is heading towards its August 6 launch, and regional availability will matter for a competitive fighting game that depends heavily on a global player base. For players in affected markets, even a partial change is encouraging. It suggests the Steam restriction list may not be final, and that Sony could still make further adjustments before launch.

PSN Concerns Remain Part of the Conversation

Much of the frustration comes from Sony’s recent history with PC releases. Several PlayStation-published games on PC have been criticised over PlayStation Network account requirements and regional availability, especially in countries where PSN is not officially supported. That history has led many players to assume Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is facing a similar issue.

Sony has not confirmed whether the Steam restrictions are directly tied to PSN account requirements. However, the pattern is familiar enough that players are naturally connecting the two.

If Sony is restoring access in selected countries, it may mean the company is revising how it handles PC availability for the game. It could also simply be a gradual correction of Steam package settings. Until PlayStation comments, the exact reason remains unclear.

More Than 100 Countries Still Appear to Be Affected

At the time of writing, many countries still appear unable to purchase Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on Steam. Reports on the original restriction list put the number of affected regions at more than 100, and while that count may now be shifting, availability remains far from global.

That is a serious concern for a fighting game. The genre thrives on international competition, local scenes, online matchmaking, and easy access to tournaments. Blocking large parts of the world from the PC version risks cutting off players who would otherwise support the game.

The issue is especially sensitive because Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is already being positioned as a long-term competitive title, with beta tests, roster reveals, and live-service-style support expected to build momentum over time.
