The Blood of Dawnwalker Sequel Is Already Taking Shape

Rebel Wolves did not need long to start thinking about what comes after The Blood of Dawnwalker. The studio’s debut RPG launched on September 3 and passed one million copies sold during its opening weekend, giving the new IP an impressive start across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Now Narrative Director and co-founder Jakub Szamałek has begun recruiting a Lead Writer to help create what he describes as the “next chapter in the Dawnwalker saga”. That does not technically amount to an announcement of The Blood of Dawnwalker 2, but it is the clearest indication yet that active work on the franchise’s next instalment is moving forward.

Rebel Wolves Wants a Lead Writer for Next Chapter

Szamałek shared the recruitment drive through his personal LinkedIn account, saying the studio was “not resting on our laurels” following the first game’s reception and commercial performance.

The Lead Writer will work directly under Szamałek while managing the wider writing team, developing stories and dialogue, reviewing narrative pitches and maintaining consistency across the expanding Dawnwalker universe.

It is a substantial role too. Rebel Wolves is asking for at least six years of professional game writing or narrative design experience, alongside experience managing a team and creating interactive, non-linear stories. For a studio that only just shipped its first game, the recruitment makes clear that Dawnwalker is already being treated as a long-term property.

The Dawnwalker Saga Was Always Bigger Than One Game

The sequel plans themselves are not entirely new. Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment previously described The Blood of Dawnwalker as the first chapter of an original saga, while our recent gameplay coverage looked at the systems underpinning Coen’s first adventure.

More importantly, the studio already showed where things eventually get much stranger. During Summer Game Fest, Rebel Wolves released a CGI teaser showing Coen in a modern 21st-century setting, confirming that future Dawnwalker instalments will move across centuries, continents and cultures rather than staying within Vale Sangora’s 14th-century setting.

Each entry is intended to tell its own self-contained story, without relying on cliffhangers or time travel to connect the different periods. The broader saga will instead introduce new locations, characters and conflicts while leaving clues towards a larger overarching narrative.

That makes the new Lead Writer recruitment particularly interesting. We know where the saga may eventually end up, but Rebel Wolves has not confirmed whether its next project will immediately make that leap into the modern world or visit another period first. After more than one million players turned up for Coen’s first adventure, the studio at least has considerably more reason to start planning the journey.
