DCKO Fighting Game Brings Heroes and Villains to Mobile
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Drop Fake have announced DCKO, a new free-to-play DC fighting game coming to iOS and Android in 2027. For years, fighting game fans have been waiting to see whether NetherRealm Studios would eventually return to the DC universe with Injustice 3. Instead, Warner Bros. is taking a very different route with DCKO, a mobile-first fighter built around real-time player-versus-player combat, two-character teams, and a more stylised comic book look.
It may not be the console sequel some fans were hoping for, but it does show that DC fighting games are not disappearing. They are just moving into a different space.
Two-Character Tag Battles Lead the Combat
DCKO is built around 2v2 tag-team battles between DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains. Players will choose two Legends for each fight, with one active fighter and one benched partner who can be called in for assists, combo extensions, and tag-team Super Moves. The combat system uses mobile-friendly tap-and-swipe inputs, with light hits, heavier attacks, grabs, techs, and meter-based supers designed around touchscreen play.
Drop Fake is also pushing real-time PvP as one of the game’s biggest features. Rather than fighting only AI-controlled teams or asynchronous opponents, DCKO will let players face live opponents directly, with leaderboards and competitive play planned around that structure.
PvE Modes Will Add Story and Progression
The game will not be limited to online competition. DCKO will include PvE story content, Rifts, seasonal missions, Arena activities, and other solo-friendly modes. These are designed to let players build their roster, earn rewards, and strengthen their Legends before heading into PvP.
Customisation will go beyond skins. Players will be able to level up fighters, unlock stat boosts, choose from interchangeable Super Moves, and adjust how their characters perform in battle. Costume variants will also draw from different eras of DC history, giving long-time fans another reason to collect and experiment.
Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and More Are Confirmed
The initial roster already includes several major DC names. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Robin, Nightwing, Bane, Starfire, Zatanna, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Raven, Blue Beetle, Constantine, Katana, Lex Luthor, and Doomsday have all been shown or listed so far.
Drop Fake also says a new Legend will be revealed every month, suggesting DCKO is being built as a long-term live-service fighter with regular roster updates, maps, stories, and rewards.
Drop Fake Has Mobile Fighting Game Experience
Drop Fake is a new studio, but its team has notable genre experience. The studio was founded by former Kabam developers, including people who worked on Marvel Contest of Champions, one of mobile gaming’s most successful superhero fighting games. That background makes DCKO worth watching, especially if Warner Bros. wants a DC mobile fighter that can last for years rather than arrive as a short-lived tie-in.
For now, DCKO does not have a specific release date beyond 2027. Pre-registration is already open, with beta access planned through the official website. It may not be Injustice 3, but DCKO could become something else entirely: a DC fighter built specifically for mobile players who want quick matches, familiar heroes, and live competition on the go..
